Edgar Mitchell was an American astronaut and founder of the Institute of Noetic Sciences. He was the sixth person to walk on the moon as a member of the Apollo 14 mission in 1971.
After his time in the military and NASA, Mitchell became interested in the study of consciousness and the potential of human psychic abilities. He founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences in 1973 to explore these topics and promote the understanding of the nature of consciousness. Mitchell was also a strong advocate for environmental and social issues, and was involved in various charitable and humanitarian efforts throughout his life.
He passed away in 2016 at the age of 85.
